Stream Melii Ft A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie HML
Harlem rapper Melii has returned with her first single of 2019, connecting NYC boroughs with Bronx native A Boogie wit da Hoodie for “HML,” which premiered as Zane Lowe’s World Record over at Beats 1 Wednesday (Jan. 9) afternoon.
The island-tinged track finds the 20-year-old pouring her heart out in hopes of her love interest coming back around. “Baby, won’t you come on by/ No surprise, you know I wanna change your life/ Baby, I just need one night/ Get a taste of paradise,” she intones over the Rvssian production.
The “Icey” artist also caught up with Zane Lowe for a brief interview via FaceTime, where she relayed that her highly anticipated Phases project is finished and still slated for this year. “It’s just that I’m a perfectionist.
Like, I always, once I take a step back, I let music live, you know, and then I listen to it and I’m like, ‘No, this is missing,'” Melii explained. “So there’s certain songs that I’ve altered, just like, fixed and then there’s certain songs I have pulled out because I feel like no, this phase is better.”
Reading between the lines, she even hinted that there will be a Drake collaboration on the effort. “There are collabs on Phases and I can’t say the name, but it’s somebody who has hits after hits,” she teased. “My favorite artist.” Lowe goes on to pry out of her that the artist is male and not American, making it all the more obvious.
