Roger Goodell has not confirmed the report linking JAY-Z to the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, leaving the rapper’s possible 2027 appearance unannounced by the NFL.
JAY-Z remains at the center of Super Bowl speculation after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell declined to confirm a reported halftime booking. Speaking after owners met in New York on October 21, Goodell said the league had not made an announcement, according to Front Office Sports.
“We haven’t announced anything. Until we do, we won’t make any comment on that,” Goodell said. The question concerned a Puck report that JAY-Z would perform. Goodell’s answer neither verified that account nor explicitly ruled the rapper out, a distinction that matters before fans treat a reported selection as the official lineup.
JAY-Z already occupies an influential position behind the event: Roc Nation organizes the halftime show through its NFL partnership. A performance would therefore be a different role from the one he has held in shaping the production. His involvement in the selection process should not, by itself, be read as evidence that he has booked himself.
The possibility is not entirely new. At the January 2024 premiere of The Book of Clarence, JAY-Z told Entertainment Tonight that he had considered it selfish to choose himself too early. His answer about eventually taking the stage was “Maybe one year,” leaving the idea open without attaching it to a particular game.
The event’s location and date are established even though this performer report remains unconfirmed. SoFi Stadium’s official announcement places Super Bowl LXI in Inglewood on February 14, 2027. It will be the stadium’s second Super Bowl in five years and the ninth hosted in the greater Los Angeles region.
The host committee’s plans extend beyond the game, with NFL Honors, Super Bowl Experience, Opening Night and community programming scheduled around the region. That gives the eventual halftime selection a much wider event framework. For now, Goodell’s October 21 remarks establish where the league stood when asked: a report was circulating, but the NFL was not ready to announce or discuss its choice.
