Updates: Previously, LeBron James revealed that he planned on giving his jersey number to new teammate Anthony Davis. The two even posed together in a picture that featured Davis’ name on a jersey with the number 23 under it. Now, it seems that move is a no-go, as Nike has blocked the number swap from happening.
Reports noted that the Lakers would have to notify the merchandiser of the request to change the number by March 15. Since that did not happen, LeBron and Davis would have to wait it out until the next production deadline takes place. In the meantime, Anthony Davis will sport the number 3 on his jersey.
Original Story 07/08/2019 9:05AM:
With the early frenzy around NBA free-agency now done after Kawhi Leonard’s seismic move to the Clippers, and the league moratorium now lifted, teams are able to sign their new players to contracts making the moves official. Last night, the Anthony Davis trade became official and LeBron welcomed his new running mate with the fresh Lakers #23 jersey that reads “Davis” on the back.
Since the Lakers missed out on Kawhi Leonard, they had to fill out their roster with players they hope will offer quality minutes. A few of the notable signings the Lakers made include Danny Green, and AD’s former teammates Rajon Rondo and DeMarcus Cousins.
