Deozi Is Living His Musical Destiny
From the streets of New York City comes an artist whose journey with music started almost as soon as he could talk. Deozi has been creating since childhood. At only six years old he wrote a reggae song and sang it proudly for his aunt and uncle. By twelve, he had already penned his first rap, setting the tone for a lifelong connection to music.
Music was never far from his life. It ran through his family like a constant rhythm. Surrounded by musicians and inspired by the sounds of his uncle, Deozi grew up with a house full of country music thanks to his mother, reggae that spoke to his soul, and the timeless voices of singers like Ann Peebles. All of these sounds blended together and sparked a curiosity that would never fade.
Today, his artistry reflects that wide palette. Deozi creates across genres, drawing from rap, 60s rhythm and blues, 70s soul, jazz, blues, Spanish reggae from Panama, bullerengue of Colombia, Jamaican reggae and dancehall, and even 70s folk music. His taste is expansive, and his music reflects an appreciation for all the textures sound can hold. He also plays guitar, adding another dimension to his creativity.
When it comes to influences, his list is just as eclectic as his sound. He looks up to legends such as Frankie Lymon, Gregory Isaacs, Bill Withers, Lord Sassafrass, Sean Paul, Poor Righteous Teachers, Migos, X Clan, Busta Rhymes, Black Eyed Peas, Wyclef of the Fugees, Nina Simone, and Bob Marley, to name only a few. Each of these artists has left an imprint on the way he approaches his own craft.
His journey in the industry has not been straightforward. Life circumstances and family responsibilities led him to step away for a time to help others. But now, Deozi calls this chapter a blessing, a chance to continue his path and fulfill what he sees as destiny. In 2017, he released his debut EP titled Chrysalis. That project was an experiment, blending the energy of dancehall with the grit of trap, setting the stage for the versatile sound he continues to build today.
One of his most memorable moments so far came during his album release party, where he was met with overwhelming encouragement and love. It was a reminder that his music resonates deeply with people. Most recently, on August 28th 2025, he released Eye Love My Mama, a project that stands as an eclectic piece of art. Pulling inspiration from multiple genres, the album reflects both his roots and his growth as an artist.
Right now, Deozi is focused on bringing the album to life visually, working on videos for two of its standout songs. While there are no upcoming performances announced just yet, his fans can expect powerful visuals that match the passion and depth of his music.
With a history that began in childhood, influences spanning cultures and decades, and a vision grounded in destiny, Deozi is stepping fully into his artistry. His music is more than sound, it is a reflection of the life he has lived and the legacy he is determined to leave behind.
