Chicago rapper BloodHound Q50, born Mikquale Cooper, was killed at 22 after gunmen opened fire on the vehicle he was sitting in early Sunday in the city’s Fuller Park neighborhood.
According to Complex, citing Chicago police, the shooting happened at about 3:58 a.m. on Sunday, September 13. Police said two vehicles pulled alongside the 22-year-old victim while he was seated in the driver’s seat and people inside opened fire before fleeing the area.
Q50 suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and shoulder. Emergency personnel treated him at the scene, but he was pronounced dead there. Authorities had not announced any arrests or a motive as of the latest reports, and the fatal shooting remains under investigation.
BloodHound Q50’s real name was Mikquale Cooper, and he had celebrated his 22nd birthday on August 6. The Chicago artist had been building momentum in the city’s drill scene after beginning to record music casually in 2023 and drawing wider attention with records including “Splash Bros.” and collaborations with his cousin, Bloodhound Lil Jeff.
His career took on greater focus after Lil Jeff’s death in 2024, something Q50 discussed publicly in later interviews. He continued releasing music at a steady pace and expanded his audience beyond Chicago, including a performance at Rolling Loud in Orlando earlier this year.
On August 6, Q50 released the nine-track project Get Back Or Die Trying, which included the Bloodhound Lil Jeff collaboration “Lemon Lime.” The project arrived through Signal Records under exclusive license from Grade A Productions, marking one of the biggest releases of Q50’s career just weeks before his death.
Tributes began appearing across hip-hop after reports of the shooting spread, including messages from Rolling Loud and media figures who had interviewed Q50 during his rise. Police have not publicly identified any suspects, and investigators have not announced what led to the shooting.
