Jhené Aiko and Kendrick Lamar Reunite on New Song ‘So Good’

Jhené Aiko and Kendrick Lamar have reunited on “So Good,” a new collaboration released as part of Aiko’s Westside Whimsy album.

The song arrived Friday, September 11, with the full album and gives the two Los Angeles-connected artists another entry in a creative relationship that stretches back more than a decade. Kendrick’s appearance is one of the highest-profile features on Westside Whimsy.

Aiko and Lamar previously worked together on “Growing Apart (To Get Closer)” from Lamar’s 2010 Overly Dedicated project. They later reunited on “Stay Ready (What a Life)” from Aiko’s 2013 EP Sail Out.

“So Good” therefore lands as more than a first-time pairing. The song revives a collaboration that helped connect the two artists early in their careers, while placing it inside an album built around Aiko’s California identity and musical influences.

The track was first revealed when the Westside Whimsy tracklist was announced ahead of release. With the album now available, listeners can finally hear how Kendrick Lamar’s new verse fits into Aiko’s latest body of work.

Other guests on the album include Ab-Soul, Larry June, Tyga and OHMA, but “So Good” carries particular weight because of Aiko and Lamar’s shared history. It is one of the clearest bridges between her earlier catalog and the new era represented by Westside Whimsy.
