Jhené Aiko has officially released Westside Whimsy, closing a six-year gap between full-length studio albums with a new project rooted in her West Coast perspective.
The album arrived Friday, September 11, after a rollout that brought its title, artwork and tracklist into focus earlier this week. Westside Whimsy spans 20 tracks and gives Aiko a full-length follow-up to 2020’s Chilombo.
The guest list includes Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Larry June, Tyga and OHMA. Kendrick appears on “So Good,” the collaboration that was revealed when the album tracklist surfaced ahead of release.
Aiko has described the project’s creative foundation in terms of California and the music that shaped her, including ’90s rap, R&B and soul. That regional identity runs through the album’s presentation as she returns with her first studio LP since Chilombo.
The release also extends Aiko’s recent activity after a quieter stretch between albums. Rather than arriving as a one-off single, Westside Whimsy gives listeners a complete new chapter and several collaborations tied to different corners of West Coast rap and R&B.
For longtime listeners, the project reconnects Aiko with artists from different points in her catalog while leaving most of the record centered on her own writing and vocal presence. Its arrival makes the previously announced tracklist and guest lineup available to hear in full for the first time.
