Young Thug is asking a Georgia judge to throw out a civil case that has kept the 2015 shooting of Lil Wayne’s tour bus in court for more than a decade.
Young Thug’s attorneys are seeking dismissal of the lawsuit filed by Lil Wayne’s former tour bus driver, Alvin Lewis, over the April 2015 shooting outside Atlanta. According to Courthouse News Service, lawyers for the rapper appeared in Cobb County court on August 17, 2026, arguing that the case lacks direct evidence tying Young Thug, born Jeffery Williams, to the gunfire.
Lewis was driving a bus carrying Wayne and his entourage when it was struck by gunfire after leaving a concert. No one was physically injured, but Lewis is seeking damages for emotional distress and alleges that Young Thug and Birdman were responsible for events surrounding the attack, claims both artists have denied.
Attorney Jeffrey Reilly argued for Young Thug that Lewis is relying on prejudicial gang-related evidence and speculation about tensions involving Wayne rather than eyewitness testimony or other direct proof. Lewis’ attorney, Jeffrey Gewirtz, countered that the circumstances surrounding Jimmy Winfrey, also known as Peewee Roscoe, and payments made toward his legal expenses support allowing the lawsuit to continue.
Winfrey was arrested in connection with the tour bus shooting after police located his white Camaro and an assault rifle. His earlier conviction in the case was later reversed by the Georgia Supreme Court, and he subsequently entered a plea in the YSL racketeering case in 2024 on racketeering, firearm and narcotics counts.
The plaintiff’s side has also pointed to recorded jail calls involving Young Thug and Winfrey while arguing that Winfrey was being rewarded for remaining loyal. Reilly disputed that interpretation, telling the court that a $25,000 payment toward Winfrey’s attorney fees reflected Young Thug helping a longtime friend rather than evidence of an employment or criminal relationship.
Cobb County Chief Judge Eric Brewton did not issue an immediate ruling after the hearing and said he would decide in a timely manner whether Lewis’ lawsuit can move forward toward trial. The decision will determine whether the years-old civil case survives Young Thug’s latest attempt to end the litigation before a jury hears it.
