Drake and Live Nation have officially brought their History concert venue to Canada’s capital, opening a new 2,000-capacity room in downtown Ottawa.
Drake and Live Nation opened History Ottawa on August 20, marking the first expansion of the Toronto venue brand the rapper helped launch in 2021. Located at 47 Rideau Street in the ByWard Market, the two-level space gives Ottawa a new mid-sized concert destination positioned between smaller clubs and the city’s larger arenas.
The venue was developed with an emphasis on keeping audiences close to the stage, with fans positioned no more than roughly 30 metres from performers. Drake’s creative team also had a hand in the project, including the design and furnishings of a private green room and premium areas built for artists, guests and special events.
Drake celebrated the opening on Instagram and suggested he plans to visit the new location himself. “These venues are where our stories are born, elevated, shared, and hopefully revisited. I will be there to drop off my personal touch to Ottawa soon,” he wrote, according to Rolling Stone Canada.
The Wallflowers are set to headline the venue’s opening-night concert, launching a schedule that already includes more than 30 announced shows. Kaleo, Modest Mouse, Marianas Trench, Two Door Cinema Club, 6LACK and Wolf Parade are among the artists expected to perform at History Ottawa during its inaugural run.
The Ottawa location also expands on the original History concept with a dedicated premium event space and a VIP and corporate lounge capable of hosting up to 200 people. Live Nation has said the venue is designed to accommodate concerts along with galas, community programming and other special events in the heart of the ByWard Market.
History Ottawa is expected to host roughly 150 events per year, potentially bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors into the downtown area annually. Drake has not announced when he will make his first appearance at the venue, but his promise to add his “personal touch” has already put attention on a possible Ottawa pop-up.
