Gunn’s next full-length arrives in November, with a Denny La Flare-produced single setting the tone for its rollout.
Westside Gunn has announced HEELMATIC for November 13, giving his next album a release date and a first spotlight track in “Zilla.” The 16-song project is listed for release through Griselda Records and Mass Appeal, with preorders now available.
“Zilla” pairs Gunn with producer Denny La Flare, and its accompanying visual takes the rapper to Egypt. Directed by Daily Gem, the video features Gunn around the pyramids and riding camels, placing his delivery against a setting far removed from the Buffalo streets associated with his early records.
As Stereogum notes, the video had already appeared on Instagram in August before reaching YouTube with the album announcement. That makes this week’s release a formal step in the HEELMATIC campaign, rather than the first time fans have been able to see the Egypt footage.
The announced song titles keep Gunn’s fascination with wrestling and fashion close to the surface. “Grant Heel,” “Koke Slam” and “The Bastard Pac” sit alongside “Tommy Heelfiger,” extending the mix of sports references and designer-wordplay that has become part of his project presentation.
HEELMATIC adds another full-length to Gunn’s catalogue, which also includes Pray for Paris. No guest performers were named in the announcement coverage, leaving the album’s eventual collaborations separate from the confirmed release details.
Gunn has also announced the European and UK run Heel the World Tour 2: Still Healing. Its itinerary includes Brussels, Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow, Dublin and several German cities, extending the rollout beyond the November album date and giving the new music a live stage.
