North Oakland native Surfa Solo is ready for action with his new project Ice City, dubbed after his hometown of North Oakland, AKA Ice City.
Surfa Solo is back with a dope project, as he puts on for his city with his seven-track project that slaps. His sound and style are a mixture of rap, R&B, and bay area sounds, as Surfa Solo delivers vulnerable verses and an electrifying cadence that is pure magic, as he asserts his “melody-driven raps” into each song.
“I gain my passion for music out of the feeling and journey of making it,” Surfa Solo said in a recent interview. “It motivates me when I’m in the booth and gives my everyday life some meaning. I can gain energy from it while also making money, it’s a vibe and my passion. My legacy inspires me to always keep pushing to leaving and lasting imprint behind.”
Surfa says that he got his start rapping when he was locked up. His brother was pursuing a career in music and seeing success, even having songs on the radio, so when Surfa got out, he pursued a career in music. As soon as he was released, with a unique style and cadence, Surfa Solo immediately hopped on the scene and delivered a certified bop with his single “All Night,” featuring Rayven Justice. Proving his lyrical, versatility, and aptitude as a rapper, it is no surprise that Surfa Solo has proven himself yet again with his latest release, Ice City.
Ice City opens with his lead single for the project, “Straitjacket,” a familiar fan favorite that delivers a high-pitched melodic cadence and a straight vibe. This track is also the first visual from the project and fitting for a straitjacket, as Surfa Solo leads you into an abandoned building filled with chaos, as he gets treated by his alluring nurse.
Surfa Solo follows up his visual for “Straitjacket” with another visual for his other lead single, “Designer Jeans,” featuring Swayze. The song showcases Surfa’s versatility as he slows down his flow and reflects on his youth and trying to survive in the “trenches,” doing “robberies,” and putting his faith in God and his Glock 30, and only fearing the former.
Ice City features a plethora of hits, from “Why You Playing,” featuring Guapdad4000 and Rayven Justice, and “Tear It Off,” featuring Yhung T.O, as the project itself seeps gold. Ice City is a must-listen-to project as it gives a deep look into the everyday life of North Oakland native Surfa Solo’s life.
