If it was unclear before, Spotify is going all in on the podcast game. The music streaming platform has already signed exclusive deals with talent like Jemele Hill, Joe Budden, Amy Schumer and many more. Today, the platform made their biggest splash in the industry with another major power play.
Barack and Michelle Obama have inked an exclusive deal to produce podcasts alongside Spotify. Under the new deal, the Obamas will create podcast content within a new a division of their company called Higher Ground Audio. The topics of the podcast may vary from politics to pop culture.
In a statement, Barack Obama said, “We’ve always believed in the value of entertaining, thought-provoking conversation.” He added, “It helps us build connections with each other and open ourselves up to new ideas. We’re excited about Higher Ground Audio because podcasts offer an extraordinary opportunity to foster productive dialogue, make people smile and make people think, and, hopefully, bring us all a little closer together.”
By working with Spotify, the Obamas will join the likes of Bill and Chelsea Clinton who also work directly with the streaming giant. The Clinton duo launched their show, Why Am I Telling You This?, last month. There’s no clear release date for the Obamas’ work as of now.
