“With ‘10AM On Garfield,’ I wanted to go for more of an introspective blend while delivering defiant, gallant lyrics over boom bap production, as opposed to having another record that’s 40-50 bars of pure lyrical prowess,” says Smith.
The self-produced track, originally created in 2022 after completing production for The Trials & Tribulations: A Seductive Love Story, was always meant to be a part of his monthly B-Sides series—a project dedicated to expanding on themes explored in his previous works. The timing of its release was carefully considered, ensuring it aligned with his evolving artistic vision.
Influenced by Drake’s “Middle of the Ocean”, particularly its second half that pays homage to legends like AZ, Nas, and Dipset, Smith drew inspiration to craft a track that reflects on lessons learned from failed relationships with acquaintances, while embracing personal growth and self-acceptance within the industry. To elevate the song further, Smith brought in Teeg Austin, an artist he has admired since 2023, making this collaboration one of personal and artistic significance.
“Within my B-Sides series, I’m looking forward to continuing to invite listeners and fans to indulge in this remaining chapter within the Seductive Love Story era,” Smith shares.
