Sanford’s Booz Breaks Through – “What About Booz?” Unveils Heart and Hustle

Better life – all of us have this goal for sure. Whether grinding through Sanford’s Bokey City blocks or dreaming past them, it’s that drive for something better that makes Booz’s “What About Booz?” hit on a whole different level. The new track—set to drop along with its music video on October 3—comes steeped in the lived reality of hustle, hope, and the need for change. There’s an energy here that’s instantly recognizable – Booz wrestles with his own story, and he’s ready to share it without filter or apology. Getting an early peek at the visuals before they go public feels like catching lightning in a bottle—exclusive and full of anticipation for what’s next.

“What About Booz?” stands firm as a hip hop record born straight from the streets, echoing Sanford’s soul in every bar. The beat pulses heavy but clean, letting Booz’s voice come through strong—steady, conversational, shaped by years of making music with a singular purpose. From the jump, you hear not just skill but lived experience: the flow sits somewhere between confession and command, riding the instrumental’s groove with confidence. Producer Mahlatse Morloutsi (TraeThisWay) lays down a frame that swings low but keeps moving, while Ryan Tayloy of Syce Studio’s mix ensures Booz’s verses never get lost in the shuffle.

The lyrics dig into hard-earned truths. Booz talks family, survival—growing up, watching out for his own, and standing tall when faced with obstacles. The details come fast, painting the city’s struggle without embellishment. You catch glimpses of him supporting his mom, keeping close ties to family even when things go sideways, and striving for ways to lift those who matter most. There’s no escaping the tension of past conflicts and ambition, with punchy lines about hustling for a living and aiming for bigger shows, making it clear that each step forward was fought for. Booz’s verses don’t hide behind metaphor—they come direct, and that’s admirable.

When Booz shouts—“What About Booz”—it’s a shout-out to every time someone underestimated or dismissed the kid. Yet, he’s not bitter—he’s expectant, owning his scars and turning struggle into sound. The repetition in the chorus gives each question a sting, layered with grit and urgency. The production allows these moments to breathe, so the pain and pride come through as Booz recounts what it’s meant to build his catalog, create with local legends and industry forces, and keep leveling up with each release.

The delivery stays true to modern hip hop, but Booz brings freshness in how he threads vulnerability and resilience. Burga’s quoted wisdom—“I won’t let nobody come around me when I get dem millions”—nods to the discipline and caution Booz brings as he climbs. Connections with big names and labels sit in the background, but the foreground stays personal. For Booz, music is about feeding his spirit and family, not just chasing endorsements or trends.

The visual story, captured by Da’Andre Joseph of Jsph Media and stills from Spencer McKinney (ComeThruTulsa), shows Booz rooted in his city, unafraid to reveal hardship or hope. It’s clear that this project exists for more than streams or status: Booz wants understanding, not just passive listens. “I want people to look into my life—not just listen because it sounds nice,” he explains.

Tracing Booz from his teenage start—recording at 13 with his cousin Nate Da Great and uncle Correy Redden—to today’s headline releases, you hear a voice that’s grown up alongside the community. Past singles have marked his progress, but “What About Booz” is framed as a statement, a testimony for those who have walked his path or wished for a way out.

The story doesn’t end here. ‘What About Booz?’ is just a look at where he’s been—and a hint at everything still to come.
