Sony has secured the horror game’s film rights, with Karyn Kusama attached to direct.

The psychological horror game Mouthwashing is moving into film development at Sony. An October 29 report from Inven Global identifies Karyn Kusama as the attached director.

Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi are writing the adaptation. Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill and Vince Cheng are producing through Crooked Highway, with Sony’s Screen Gems involved.

The announcement does not include a cast or theatrical release date. An adaptation in development should not be confused with a completed film or a scheduled production.

Wrong Organ’s game follows five crew members stranded aboard the space freighter Tulpar. Its story builds around diminishing supplies, personal secrets and the absence of a clear rescue.

Publisher CRITICAL REFLEX says the game has sold more than 800,000 copies on Steam since its 2024 PC launch. It also won Best Narrative and Players’ Choice at the Horror Game Awards.

The film news coincides with the game’s October 29 arrival on Xbox platforms and Game Pass. That gives new players a route to the original while the screen adaptation takes shape.
