A reported December documentary project would bring Timberlake and Jackson’s shared television history back into focus.
Justin Timberlake is reportedly preparing a four-part Apple TV docuseries directed by Fisher Stevens. Variety reports, citing three sources, that the project is expected in December and is being described as a “tell-all.”
One source told the outlet that Janet Jackson will discuss the pair’s 2004 Super Bowl halftime performance. Another said Timberlake addresses recent comments from Britney Spears. Representatives for the performers and Apple had either declined to comment or not responded when Variety published its report.
The reported series would reunite Timberlake and Stevens after Palmer, released by Apple on January 29, 2021. In that drama, Timberlake played a former high-school football star returning to Louisiana after prison, whose relationship with a young neighbor becomes central to his attempt to rebuild his life.
Apple’s credits identify Stevens as Palmer’s director and Cheryl Guerriero as its writer. June Squibb, Juno Temple, Alisha Wainwright and Ryder Allen also appear in the film, establishing an earlier collaboration between the actor, filmmaker and streamer before this reported nonfiction project.
Jackson has already addressed the Super Bowl in her own documentary. A&E’s description of JANET JACKSON. places that appearance within a much broader personal account, alongside her family history, motherhood and return to the stage. Her reported participation in Timberlake’s series would therefore follow her own treatment of the event.
For now, the December window remains a reported plan, with no exact premiere date provided in the announcement. The central details come from Variety’s sources rather than a public launch statement from Apple or the artists, a distinction that leaves the final release schedule and episode content to be confirmed.
