When did the idea to be an artist/producer begin?
So.. I was never into music and never thought id be in the music industry but late 2017 I was playing around on beats from youtube and started to make a song here and there as a joke, then I put the songs out and everyone in my city was listening and enjoying what I was doing
even tho I didn’t take it serious at the time, but then I started to think wait.. everyone is liking it and I was getting a lot of messages from people telling me how much they were loving the music and how it was helping them on a daily basis, it was then that I started to take it more serious and started to make more and more music.. at the time I was training boxing and I wanted to train to become a professional boxer because I loved fighting, and when the music came about I just focussed on that and started to learn the basics of creating music.. time went past and I released a few songs until I started to become really known in my city for the music I was making and because people were telling me it was helping them on a daily basis it made me more intrigued to continue so then I started to go to a local studio to start making and taking music more serious I worked hard and put all my time and focus into my music and used it to express how I feel and what ive been through with life experiences.
Today I can say I love making music and music is literally my life I couldn’t see myself any other way anymore, this is me forever until the day my times up. I’m now an independent after rejecting some major record deals as I believe in ownership and I’ve always believed that if I put all my time and focus on it I could do everything I want and be myself too, I’m the CEO of my own company with is a record label called “YoungDiamondBroskis”, built my own professional music studio where I engineer for a lot of artists some even big names in the game such as JJ Esko, Rafa G & More.. Aswell engineering all my music myself swell as, promote, market, and distribute it all by myself and my company.
What is your favourite project you’ve worked on to date?
My favourite project to date has to be my single “I feel a way” all engineered by myself and produced by my main producer Ocean which is very well known for making beats all over the internet with millions and millions of views, streams and almost half a million subscribers on youtube, for me this was the best one so far because we were in the Covid situation at the time it must have just hit and we made it all over the internet through a video call with for me it was good as it goes to show that no matter what is happening it doesn’t stop you from achieving what you want and it is still today my favorite song that I’ve made so far. But I also really love my song “Grew Up” featuring my brother Rafa G as it has a very deep story to it if you see the video, it shows you me growing up as a young kid coming from a rough “guetto” in Portugal and it is the video with the most views I have to date.. I have almost 100 unreleased projects so there’s still a lot to release and show the world.
Can you roughly outline your creative process from the beginning of an idea for a project or a collaboration to the point of completion?
So.. I always start by listening to a few instrumentals/beats all made by me or my producers (in my company) then I go on taking it in and for me, it’s pretty straightforward
I reflex and think about life experiences and things I’ve been through in life and I just go off that. I do always make sure my energy is always good and high and make sure I’m calm and in a place where I can focus and have no distractions, I turn off my phone, turn all social media notifications off and get creating. if I’m in the studio with another artist and we connect in the same way and the energy is good then we collab if not I just stick to me and my energy and do what feels right for me. I’m all about energy, for me everything is energy and I’m good with feeling it, I know if something is not right just by my energy. so yes for me it’s quite simple and straightforward forward make a project I always succeed when creating one and I’m able to finish it and be happy with it.
How is the reality of being an independent artist/producer compared to your expectations of it?
I’m not going to lie it is very hard and it was hard turning down some huge deals but… I love the process and wouldn’t change anything about it. I feel like a lot of artists go wrong in just selling themselves to a label without knowing what comes with it because they probably were just thinking about the money and fame I’m a little different I don’t care or don’t pay attention to fame or money like that, I just focus on creating something I enjoy and focus on delivering it to my fans as best as I can everything else is inevitable, money fame, materialistic stuff all of that comes with success regardless and if you just think of that then 99% of the time you will fail. be real and be genuine in what you do be passionate and everything else will be easier and flow a lot better. nothing in life is easy you have to work hard and prove not just to the world but to yourself that anything is possible if you put your mind and heart to it.
What are some of the biggest challenges and difficulties you face when starting new projects?
The only challenges id say I face when starting new projects is if my energy is not right and I have been through recent stuff that comes with life then its hard to start a project
because your mind is somewhere else and for me I get times that I go so hard on myself and I overthink a lot so for that there can be times that I struggle to make music,
so when im going through little phases like that I just take a few days off without music to refresh my mind and ideas before I come back to work on something.
What do you do to stay calm when a project is not going as planned?
Again if a project is not going as planned is because my energy is no good at that point in time and I won’t be focused 100%, so when I’m feeling that way I just take some days off to refresh my mind and ideas if I need to take a quick trip to relax so be it, but I will not sit and create music when something is not going as planned because for me that means my energy is off and by me creating music with my energy being off that will project to the fans that are listening. energy doesn’t lie and if you create a project and don’t put the right energy into it, it will project to those that love you and support you (fans).
Do you have any insights, tips, or advice for someone starting looking to start their music career and looking to get into the music industry?
My advice is, to be yourself at all times, work hard and dedicate your life to it. most people don’t believe in themselves because they think everything is impossible!! but nothing is impossible and I get it.. with social media nowadays everything just looks impossible and people lose belief but they don’t understand that there’s a lot behind those that are constantly flexing on social media, everything you want you can achieve all you need is to believe in yourself, don’t listen to anybody but yourself and your own gut feeling, its a lot more likely someone will tell you that you are no good or you won’t succeed than telling you, your the best and you will achieve everything you want in life… it’s very rare for someone to tell you that!! you have to constantly tell yourself that if you do that and you put your whole vision, plans and goals first and you put your blood, sweat, and tears into it I promise you will get to any stage you want in life.
What are you most proud of in your career so far?
I’m proud of myself because I worked so hard to get to where I’m today and it was very challenging being independent and building brick by brick but I love every single moment of it at first nobody wanted to show love or support you and its crazy that it’s always those people that know you personally and that you have/had around you, it is a lonely journey and you will have to get rid of certain friends you love because they just don’t understand your vision or walking the same path as you so it does get very lonely at times but being able to achieve and conquer everything you’ve visioned is a crazy (good) feeling.. I’m so proud of myself and I still have a long way to go and I’m ready for everything and anything that crosses my way. I’m proud that today I’m a role model for my whole region (Cambridgeshire/Peterborough) and everything I’ve built and created I own 100%. no handouts, no help, no media or radio push, just me and my real fans. I’VE BUILT AN EMPIRE WHICH THE WORLD WILL SEE VERY SOON.. LATTZ YOUNG DIAMOND BROSKIS
What do you do when you’re not working?
I’m always working. if I’m not then I’m spending time with family and loved ones or taking a trip back home (Portugal) but again that’s very rare I stay working forever. I only got 1 life and I want to create and give back to the world in every single way I can before my time is up.
