What 3 things does anyone starting in your industry need to know?
First thing I’d say is to be unique, there are so many people trying to sound like other artists, when doing that you’re promoting someone else. Your sound is your product. People are looking for something new to listen to everyday. Second, don’t try to do what the artists are doing at the top level. Try to start by building a foundation for your music, and work yourself up. You end up upsetting yourself if you don’t get the same results as the people who have already has a large fan base. And for the third is along the same lines, give yourself time. You won’t blow up overnight, and it take years to be able to grow and market your music to get out to listeners. It’s good to stay patient and continue to push your music out.
What would you do differently if you were starting in your industry now?
I would focus on flow and writing music first. It’s the building blocks of music. Writing 16 bars a day, and memorizing those 16 bars. It grows the vocabulary usage when free styling and also helps with writers block. Which I had a big problem with both. It’s something I continue to work on till this day.
Which people or books have had the most influence on your growth and why?
Definitely my close friend Dante. I would send him snippets of my songs of when I first started which were honestly trash. But instead of him hyping me for them he told me the truth, that they were trash. It’s nice to have someone like that because it made me realize my mistakes and tweak things about my style that made me better. Honesty goes a long way.
What would you say is the #1 key to success in your music career?
To believe I can be one of the greatest. To always keep that in the back of my head and to grind for that no matter what I’m up against. Ik I can do anything. I’ve set my goal on music. I know that my success in music is all up to me.
Talk about the biggest failure you’ve had. What did you learn from it?
The biggest failure I’ve had is having the wrong group of people around me. It’s hard to be great at anything when the people you surround yourself by don’t have goals to be great in anything or the best interest in you. I try to surround myself with people who will be supportive of career and has goals for theirs too.
What has been your biggest success story? Why do you think it was a success?
I’d say honestly my biggest success is seeing the people who want to work with me and help me grow on my career. People who have experience in the music industry. It’s a success for me because I never thought I’d be in the position I am now. Especially thinking about where I have come from and evolved. I’ve been blessed in many ways.
What keeps you going when things get tough in the music industry?
Hope. Being optimistic that things will get better and there isn’t always a straight path. Being resilient in these situations and letting the tide pass. Hardships is only temporary.
What made you pursue being anArtist full time?
The love for music and seeing the potential I have with music. Every song I’ve made was produced off iOS GarageBand and recorded with Bluetooth EarPods. Knowing I could eventually have more potential being in a studio one day with someone who can mix my music better, since I am a beginner, makes me think I could have this as a career to build on.
Would you sign to a label?
I would only sign to a label if I feel I could benefit from being signed.
What projects are you working on for the rest of 2022?
I’m working on a second EP that will come sometime the end of this year. I have 2 songs finished that will be on the album for sure. And eventually I will share more details in the future.
