What is your name and what city do you rep?
Hey what’s up world, it’s me, DJ Kurupt and I represent for the entire world east coast west coast and the south of course. Things all started out for me in New England, Springfield Mass to be exact and then NYC got a hold of me through my music vibes then from New York City it was and currently Atlanta, GA.
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
My latest release is my single called “At The Bag” and it features my good friend and Hip Hop artist FerQuan. It was really the two of us that had inspired the song, after I played out the beat production and presented it to him he loved it and got right down to the writing. Once we’ve both seen where it was going we understood what all needed to happen from there to make this a big deal.
And honestly, this is all a part of the process because look now we are here at 24 Hip Hop talking about the creation of what it is right now. And I must say thank you guys a million times for the love and support.
What is unique about you and your music?
DJ Kurupt, I always embrace a positive mindset, no matter the situation. My motto is “Mindset Saves Lives”. What’s unique about my music is, I always try to pull the positive out of a person and/or situation to inspire and motivate. With everything that is going on in the world today, we all can use something positive and upbeat; and that’s what I do, I incorporate that into my music. I really feel that everyone needs uplifting and inspirational healing and putting that into my music is important to me. Music is like a form of therapy. It can change a person’s mindset by making them happy, making them vibe, and be uplifted.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
I’ve realized that music was a thing for me when one whole half of the world would be excited about a mix that I would do and to have seen these mixes go from one side of the world to the next and get everybody talking about who’s that DJ, oh okay it’s DJ Kurupt, well where is he and how do we get him to rock at our next event or club and man,.. the movement contained to grow and expand bigger than me and I appreciate it all.
What type of music do you listen to?
I really listen to all types of music in all genres. I like the sound of Hiphop and to me the demanding force it has to captivate listeners is amazing. I like R & B. I like that silky sound that makes women smile and feel good and happy about themselves because what’s the world without women and happy women are powerful as well. I like and listen to lite rock as it helps me to be cool and jump into the other side of my mind to create something so cool and different, I like a lot of music and it all does something for me and helps my mind to breathe.
What inspires you to write music?
The thing that inspires me to do music, write music and even listen to music are all of the sounds compiled into that full production is really a highlight for me. I often think of it as my coloring book of sounds and I could sit in a chair looking thru a window and dazing for days into an imaginary canvas where I’d place all of these sounds to my likings and sit there and be happy. That’s what I do and then I go into the studio and lay it all down. That’s my inspiration.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
When I am not creating music which is not often at all but during those times I am laying out the blueprint for the projects to make it to the light. And putting other business plans together for other members and some clients to my team and production group.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
Well, I was kind of told it already. I just didn’t pay much attention and that was to stay focused and not let up or slow down. We cannot always see the other side of our hard work so we’re not always understanding the full workload or duty that has to be put in to even make it to the next stage and so we / I start to look the other way and try to find other things to get into to make up for the missed opportunity. Remember why you started and do not quit until you’ve reached the goal.
Tell us about your upcoming projects…
My project right now is to see to it that everyone and yes, their momma here’s my newest song “At The Bag” featuring FerQuan because this is exactly what it is right now… we are “at that bag and a big bag”. – FerQuan
And now my upcoming projects right now are to release the second single off of my EP “The Mixtape Hero” then I am releasing an audiobook for the good people out there to absorb lots of the good knowledge and wisdom that has accompanied my mental over these past few years and I am loving my continued growth for certain.
Any last words for the readers?
My last words for the readers are to always remember the good that is built inside of you from birth and never let anyone get the best of you in attempts to throw you off of your mission,.. in more simple terms “Stay Focused” because whatever is in front of you to block your next moves keep in mind that it is a must to stand up in front of it and knock it down because there is a person coming up behind you and you must lay down the path for your family for generations to come.
