What is your name and what city do you rep?
“I go by Davee and repping Queens,Ny.”
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
“I recently released my 1st 5-track Ep called “The Beggining”and just last week, a spanish track called “Urbe”. On the Ep each track has a different vibe to it but all relate back to actual life experiences. I even have a spanish track on the Ep called “verde papel” featuring “Ray Roz”, a childhood friend who i rap now along side with. Since i was originally born in Medellin, Colombia, my roots play a big part in my life. Im a fan of all type of hiphop which made me really want to write in spanish, but of course the spanish rapper Tego calderon is who really inspired me into spanish rap. In my latest single “Urbe” which is featured by a fellow colombian rapper B.A.O, we talk about life as we live it, while shouting out our hometowns because of course, never forget were you come from.”
What is unique about you and your music?
“Not many people can switch up language in their music, doing spanish and english rap i feel like it sets me apart.”
What shaped your music?
“My life shaped my music. My experiences, family, and friends. Growing up a kid in Colombia and a teen in Queens, really gave me a diff view.”
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
“I started writing music when i was 14years old, like any young kid that loves rap, i deff saw myself as a rap artist one day. I was deff shy about it when i was young so i never really went all out, but when my boys i grew up with showed the same insterest,it really put the battery in our backs to really try to make something happen. Its not about the fame and money, its about getting our word out and having people that can relate.”
What type of music do you listen to?
“I listen to to ALOt of old school hiphop, mixed with the new rap like dave east, jcole, joeybadass, griselda and of course i love spanish music from cumbia to regueton, mind u i grew up my parents not knowing english so spanish music i never got away from.”
What inspires you to write music?
“Theres a few things, but mainly my life. I feel through music is the best way to express yourself dont matter if your feeling good or bad.”
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
“I do have a regular part-time job, making music aint cheap haha. im a big time weed smoker too, so thats another hobby and i play basketball.”
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
“I would say stay true to yourself, dont try to be like others and be consistent. Also careful of people who just try to leech of you because not everyone is your friend, people have their own agenda.”
