Emerging with a debut rooted in emotional honesty, Ellory Grace introduces herself through “IN BETWEEN,” a deeply reflective single that captures the uncertainty and quiet transformation that often comes with growing up. Rather than presenting polished answers or forced clarity, the conversation reveals an artist unafraid to sit inside unresolved emotions and document them in real time. Throughout the interview, Ellory Grace speaks candidly about identity, overthinking, evolving relationships, and the pressure of trying to understand yourself while life is still actively shifting around you. That vulnerability becomes the foundation of both the music and the creative vision behind it.
The discussion also highlights the careful intention behind the song’s minimalist and atmospheric production, created alongside Justin Tinucci and Lynnzee Fraye, where every detail was designed to preserve emotional closeness instead of overwhelming it. From symbolic imagery like paper boats and bleeding ink to reflections on mental health and self-worth, Ellory Grace paints a thoughtful portrait of someone navigating multiple versions of themselves at once. “IN BETWEEN” ultimately feels less like a traditional debut and more like the opening page of an ongoing personal journal, inviting listeners into the emotional spaces that often go unspoken but remain universally understood.
Q: Your debut single “IN BETWEEN” centers on the idea of existing in transitional phases of life. What inspired you to explore that specific emotional space for your first release?
I think a lot of growing up feels transitional, even when nothing around you looks different yet. That emotional space felt honest to me because it wasn’t fully resolved. It was more about realizing something had shifted before I fully understood what the shift actually meant. For a first release, I didn’t want to pretend I already had everything figured out. IN BETWEEN felt like the most honest place to begin.
Q: You mentioned that the song wasn’t written with a specific message in mind, but rather from a place of understanding your thoughts. How did that organic approach shape the final record?
I think it made the song feel more emotionally true. I wasn’t trying to force a perfect conclusion onto it while I was writing. I just followed the feeling honestly and let the song become whatever it needed to become. A lot of the lyrics came from thoughts that kept replaying in my head before I fully understood why they stayed with me. That’s probably why parts of the song still feel unresolved, because I was still figuring it out while I was writing it.
Q: The production on “IN BETWEEN” is described as minimalist and atmospheric. How important was that sonic direction in helping convey the song’s emotional depth?
It was really important. We wanted the production to leave space instead of constantly telling the listener how to feel. Sometimes minimal production can actually make emotion feel closer because there’s nothing distracting from it. The atmosphere became part of the storytelling. The song sounds calm on the surface, but emotionally there’s still a lot happening underneath it.

Q: You worked closely with Justin Tinucci and Lynnzee Fraye on this track. What was the creative process like collaborating with them, and how did they help bring your vision to life?
They were both really protective of the emotional honesty of the song, which mattered a lot to me. Nobody was trying to overcomplicate it or force it into something bigger than it needed to be. A lot of the process was about listening closely to what the song already was emotionally and building around that instead of over-producing it. We wanted the atmosphere of the track to feel relatable and emotionally close.
Q: The imagery in the song, like paper boats and ink bleeding, is very delicate and symbolic. How do visuals and metaphors play a role in your songwriting?
I think metaphors sometimes make emotions feel more human. There are certain feelings that actually become harder to explain the more directly you talk about them. Imagery lets people step into the emotion without over-defining it. A lot of my writing starts visually first. Usually there’s an image, a sound, or a moment that stays in my head emotionally before I even fully understand what it means yet.
Q: “IN BETWEEN” touches on identity and the feeling of shifting between different versions of yourself. How have your personal experiences influenced that theme?
A lot of my experiences shaped that naturally. Growing up between different environments, school, modeling, social media, music, you become aware of how many versions of yourself can exist at once. I think part of growing up is slowly figuring out which parts actually feel the most like you underneath all of that. That uncertainty became a really important part of the emotional space of the song.
Q: Releasing the single during Mental Health Month adds another layer of meaning. What conversations or emotions are you hoping the song sparks for listeners?
I hope it makes people feel less pressured to immediately have everything figured out emotionally. A lot of mental health exists in quieter spaces, overthinking something, replaying conversations, sitting with emotions you don’t fully understand yet. I don’t think every feeling needs to be solved right away. Sometimes just noticing what stayed with you is enough.
Q: You’ve described your music as giving thoughts “somewhere to land.” How do you hope listeners connect with your work on a deeper, personal level?
I hope people hear parts of themselves inside the songs. Even if the exact experience is different, I think a lot of emotions are shared, uncertainty, overthinking, identity, relationships changing, trying to understand yourself while you’re still growing into who you are. I think music becomes powerful when someone hears something and feels understood before they can fully explain why.
Q: As this is your official debut, how does “IN BETWEEN” set the tone for the larger body of work you’re currently developing?
It introduces the emotional world I’m most interested in writing from. A lot of the music I’m working on revolves around identity, self-worth, friendships, growing up, and emotional shifts that happen quietly over time. The songs all come from slightly different moments, but they’re connected by the same feeling of trying to understand something while you’re still inside it.
Q: Looking ahead, how do you plan to continue exploring themes like identity, self-worth, and evolving relationships in your future releases?
I want to keep writing from a very honest and specific place instead of trying to generalize everything. A lot of the songs I’m working on now explore friendships, emotional distance, growing into yourself, and realizing certain relationships don’t fit the same way anymore. I think those experiences are a huge part of growing up, especially during your teens. I’m interested in documenting those changes while they’re still happening, not years later once they’ve already been fully processed.
As the interview comes to a close, it becomes clear that “IN BETWEEN” is only the beginning of a much larger artistic journey for Ellory Grace. Her perspective on songwriting centers around documenting emotions while they are still unfolding, rather than revisiting them once they have already been resolved. That approach gives her work a rare immediacy, allowing listeners to connect with feelings of uncertainty, emotional distance, and self-discovery in a way that feels personal and authentic. Her commitment to honesty over perfection positions her as an artist focused not just on creating music, but on creating emotional experiences people can genuinely see themselves inside.
Looking ahead, Ellory Grace hints at a growing body of work that will continue exploring themes surrounding identity, friendships, growing pains, and the quiet emotional shifts that define adolescence and early adulthood. If “IN BETWEEN” is any indication, future releases will continue leaning into introspective storytelling and understated emotional depth rather than surface-level narratives. The interview leaves a lasting impression of an artist who understands that some of the most meaningful moments in life exist in the spaces before clarity arrives, and who is determined to turn those moments into music that resonates long after the song ends.
