PITTSBURG, Calif. — Montrice Crockett, a Christian R&B recording artist from Pittsburg, California, is carving out a distinct space in music with a sound that blends gospel and contemporary R&B, guided by faith and personal experience.
Crockett’s musical journey began early, inspired by watching her father record in the studio and collaborate with Bay Area artists, including Messy Marv. Those moments shaped her passion for music and set the foundation for her career as a recording artist.
“I just feel like what I have to say means something for someone,” Crockett said. “And what better way to convey that than by getting my message through the Holy Spirit in Christian R&B and gospel music.”
Her sound stands out for its fusion of spiritual messaging with modern R&B influences, aiming to connect with listeners on both a musical and emotional level.
Among her early career highlights, Crockett attended both the Dove Awards and the Grammy Awards, where she walked the red carpet and encountered major artists, including Katy Perry and Beyoncé. She credits releasing her first song as a key turning point, helping her build valuable industry relationships, including connecting with her manager.
Despite these milestones, Crockett acknowledges the challenges of stepping into a solo career. Having previously performed in a group at church events, she now faces the pressure of delivering music on her own.
“It’s a little nerve-wracking,” she said. “I’m constantly fighting through fears and worries, trying to perfect my songs and make sure the message is coming across the right way — for the fans and for God.”
Looking ahead, Crockett has clear goals. She hopes to one day perform at the BET Awards and premiere a music video on BET, seeing it as a natural platform for her growing brand.
She also envisions creative ways to connect her music with broader audiences, including sports fans. Drawing parallels between faith in music and the role of prayer in athletics, Crockett aims to create visuals and songs that resonate across cultures.
“Teams pray before and after games,” she said. “I want people to see that connection and feel something real from it — something that brings joy.”
As she continues to develop her artistry, Crockett remains focused on delivering music that inspires, uplifts and reflects her faith-driven purpose.
