Boston’s POH ‘Product Of Hip Hop’ Revives Golden Era Vibes with New Track ‘Don’t Play Ya Self’

Rising artist POH (Product Of Hip Hop) has unveiled his highly anticipated music video for “Don’t Play Ya Self,” a powerful throwback to the golden era of hip-hop. The track, which features legendary rapper Edo. G and scratches by JHN SWN, and with a mix by Beast on Boards is a raw and unapologetic anthem that encourages listeners to stay true to themselves in a world where authenticity is often compromised.

The music video, directed by Darren Cole and filmed on location in Boston, Massachusetts, is a masterclass in visual storytelling. Shot using the iconic Red Dragon Cinema Camera, the video captures the gritty essence of hip-hop culture while blending it with modern cinematic techniques. The addition of hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animations adds a unique artistic flair, making the video a true “cinematic product.”

“Don’t Play Ya Self“ is more than just a song—it’s a call to action. With its bar-for-bar lyricism, infectious scratches, and Edo. G’s timeless presence, the track pays homage to the days of rocking the mic with friends and speaking your mind without hesitation. The synergy between POH, Edo. G, and JHN SWN is palpable, creating a track that resonates with both old-school hip-hop heads and new-generation fans.

Director Darren Cole and Director of Photography Studio Darby expertly crafted a visual narrative that complements the song’s message. The video’s dynamic camerawork and Boston-centric backdrop highlight the city’s vibrant hip-hop culture, while the editing by Darren Cole ensures a seamless and engaging viewing experience.

POH shared his inspiration behind the project: “This song and video are about staying true to who you are, especially in a time when it’s easy to lose yourself. Working with Edo. G and JHN SWN was an honor, and I’m grateful to everyone who helped bring this vision to life.”

The project was made possible with the support of Location Record Co. Boston and a dedicated team of collaborators, including Devin, Kgrowler, BOB, M.3ro, Alma Nita, Taylor, Milk, Kalvin, Hulew, Alfredo, Dillon, Mithil, Jayroll, and Hydra.XYZ.

“Don’t Play Ya Self” is now available on all major streaming platforms, and the music video can be viewed below.
