“Music became my vow, my redemption, and my voice.”
Jarod Takari Mason, better known as BKA Takari, is a hip hop artist whose story is rooted in resilience, family, and raw lyrical talent. Born in Hampton, Virginia, Takari grew up the youngest of five in a single-parent household. Inspired by his mother’s strength, he carries that same determination into both fatherhood and his music career. Today, he calls being a father to his daughter, Nova the Superstar, the greatest blessing of his life.
Takari’s love for hip hop began at age nine, watching his older brother freestyle and write music. Early influences like Jadakiss, Beanie Sigel, and The Notorious B.I.G. helped shape his style—especially his sharp punchlines, which he considers his signature.
After returning home from prison in 2019, Takari turned his promise to himself into action. “I vowed that I would do something with my music when I came home—and I’ve kept that promise ever since.” His first professional studio session in Georgia confirmed his calling, eventually leading to a deal with Worldwide International Records under CEO Lisa Marie.
Since then, Takari has hit major stages, opening for Rick Ross, 30 Deep Grimeyy, NWM Cee Murdaa, Finesse 2 Tymes, and Jackboy. He has performed in both Georgia and Virginia, and has been featured in tributes honoring the late DJ Kay Slay. With more than 38 live shows under his belt, he has proven himself as a performer who thrives in front of a crowd.
Beyond music, Takari stays deeply connected to his community, supporting causes through charity events, turkey giveaways, coat drives, and anti-violence campaigns. His mission is clear: to keep pushing forward, perfecting his craft, and using hip hop as both a platform and a purpose.
“I made a vow to myself to keep going—and I’m never letting up.”
