At 20 years old, Irish native Darren Meegan, known by his stage name “Backthen”, has accumalated a rising fan base in the underground rap scene. Specifically associating with the alternative “emo rap” scene with his mix of indie vocals and punk niche and aesthetic, that is evident in his mixing style.
It is apparent that Backthen takes inspiration from artists like Killstation and Lil Peep, although continues to surge in to a style not quite like the artists mentioned, with a distinct voice and unique use of lyricism
His most popular song entitled, “My Message To Her” sits on soundcloud currently with just north of 600 thousand streams and counting, whilst having two principal mixtapes titled “Yours Sincerely” and “Kind Regards” respectfully.
Backthen appears to be an exciting prospect in the underground soundcloud scene and has the support of youtube content creators who upload his music.
In a time of ever changing Hip-Hop and Trap music, Backthen latches on to a captivating sound he has worked on for the duration of the last two years. Being a member of the new soundcloud collective “Red River Cult”, it appears this is the beginning of a very intriguing musical process for Darren.
