Ohio’s own Austin Sonntog is just getting started in his musical journey—but he’s already proving that passion and honesty matter more than experience. Now stepping into a new chapter under the name Austroid, he’s ready to officially mark the beginning of his career with new music that speaks from the heart. Going forward, all of his work will be released under this new name, symbolizing his growth and fresh start as an artist.
Austroid’s music isn’t born from a need for fame or attention. In fact, it’s the opposite. It’s the voice of someone who found solace in songwriting during his darkest moments—someone who turned to music not to be seen, but to truly feel.
“I’m just an ordinary person writing music to express my feelings,” Austroid shares. “I started after reaching what felt like the lowest point in my life. I didn’t know how to express my emotions until I found songwriting.”
Music, for Austroid, became a safe haven—a place where he could confront his emotions, find closure, and build the strength to move forward. As he releases new material under his new name, his mission remains simple yet powerful: to create music that is not only an extension of himself but something that listeners everywhere can see themselves in.
And people are listening. In just four months as an independent artist, Austroid achieved over 100,000 streams across all platforms—a testament to the honesty and emotional resonance of his work.
However, this path wasn’t without its obstacles. Not everyone understood his need to create. Some close peers even distanced themselves, uncomfortable with his vulnerability and the topics he dared to address in his music.
“Believe it or not, I’ve lost some friends because of my music,” he admits. “But music saved my life. I realized that if people couldn’t accept that, then maybe they weren’t meant to be in my life. Friendships come and go.”
This strength—the ability to stay true to himself despite criticism—is what defines Austroid’s artistry today. It’s also what fuels his upcoming work, including his highly anticipated single “I’m The Problem” dropping May 2nd, and his future album “Erase the Boy from My Face,” a project that promises to dive even deeper into his emotional landscape.
When asked about his future, Austroid’s answer is refreshingly grounded. He doesn’t dream of fame or chart-topping hits. Instead, he dreams of simply continuing to make music, whether it’s from a dorm room or an apartment, as part of his everyday life.
“Music is a hobby right now. I have career goals outside of it. But whether it grows into something bigger or stays a personal outlet, I’ll be happy either way,” he says.
In a world that often celebrates the biggest, loudest moments, Austroid is a reminder that the quiet, personal victories are just as meaningful. His story is one of resilience, creativity, and unapologetic honesty—a story just beginning under a new name, with a voice that refuses to be silenced.
