Every artist pushes boundaries in their own rights, but there are not many artists that venture into new territories more often — and more successfully — than Tm47. The Phoenix native has dabbled in rap in the past, but his most recent single “Rainbow Road” sees him embark on an alternative indie adventure.
Atop the list of influences for Tm47 is the late Capital Steez, who made music “on a completely different level” than anyone.
“I used to want to rap like him, until I realized that Steez was on a completely different level than me,” Tm47 said. “When it comes to lyrics, I don’t think there’s a rapper alive who compares.”
Tm47 doesn’t put all of his eggs in one basket, however, adding that he considers himself a “giant sponge for music” who is constantly looking for inspiration from all creative corners of the world.
“Brakence is also a big influence for me…he definitely inspired me to take chances and start singing in my music,” he said. “Last one I’ll name is Mac Miller, but that one I think is self-explanatory.”
When it came to creating “Rainbow Road,” Tm47 began the journey in 2020 and kept honing and honing his craft until the final product was there. A collaboration with producer RedMosk, the two have several other tracks in the vault, but this is the first that sees them team up.
What’s on the horizon for one of Arizona’s hottest up and comers? The answer is a simple one: More music, some new and some from the vault, Tm47 says. Other than that, he advises fans to be prepared for a project at “some point this year” and promises to keep working on getting better and better with each release.
“Personally, I think ‘Rainbow Road’ is my best track yet…this song has been a long time coming,” Tm47 said. “I hope the fans like this side of me branching out and I hope they are ready for what’s to come.”
