In a new interview, Busta explains how a proposed anniversary song grew into the album released in August.
Busta Rhymes is revisiting the origins of Dillagence II in a new Rolling Stone interview. His account places J Dilla’s family at the beginning of a project that expanded beyond its initial plan.
Busta says Dilla’s mother contacted him in November 2025 about honoring the 20th anniversary of her son’s death. What began as an idea for one song became a full album.
The rapper describes drawing mainly from music Dilla had given him during their working relationship. Those retained recordings provided a foundation, with additional collaborators contributing as the project developed.
The finished album arrived on August 25, 2026, as Busta’s official release announcement confirms. This week’s development is the interview and its account of the record’s creation, rather than a new album drop.
The campaign had already introduced “Spazzz” and “Talk Ya Sh*t” with Lil Wayne before release. Those singles gave listeners separate entry points into the larger collection.
Busta also discusses seeking consideration at the 2027 Grammys. That is a campaign for recognition, not a nomination announcement; his broader emphasis is the shared history and family involvement behind the music.
