Former prison-unit companions allege Sean Combs paid fellow inmates to handle everyday tasks during his sentence in New Jersey.
Diddy allegedly paid inmates at Fort Dix to cook, clean and do his laundry, according to a September 29 NBC News investigation. Four men who shared his unit spoke anonymously about the arrangements.
The men described money arriving from outside the prison in the commissary accounts of inmates doing work for Combs. Their accounts included specially prepared meals and cleaning the toilet and shower before he used them.
Combs’ representative pushed back, telling NBC the coverage sensationalized ordinary prison life. The Bureau of Prisons declined to address his individual circumstances, citing privacy, safety and security concerns.
The report comes as Fort Dix faces a separate contraband case. On September 16, federal prosecutors announced charges against five people, including a current and former corrections officer, over an alleged smuggling operation; Combs was not named as a defendant in that announcement.
The Bad Boy Records founder is serving a 50-month sentence imposed in October 2025 following his conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The jury acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, making the exact outcome of his criminal trial important context for the prison reporting.
In an October 1 follow-up, NBC reported that Combs had been moved to a special housing unit after its investigation, citing a source familiar with the matter. Prison officials would neither confirm nor deny the move, and the inmate-service accounts remain attributed allegations rather than publicly released disciplinary findings.
