JJ Finesser brings his personal and musical evolution together on “Vintage ‘Finesser,” his fifth studio album and a celebration of how far he has come as he prepares for marriage.

Following “Ms. Finesser,” released in June 2026, the sequel arrives just months after his engagement. Its title pays homage to Eddie Kendricks’ 1978 album, “Vintage ’78,” drawing on a connection to Motown that began when JJ watched The Temptations biopic with his grandfather at four years old. His grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July 2026, making his approaching wedding part of a family tradition that gives the project added significance.

That perspective has developed over years of balancing creativity with changing responsibilities. JJ began making music in 2012 as a 17 year old freshman at Santa Clara University, performing at campus shows and open mics before releasing his debut, “Nalej,” in 2014. After graduating in 2016, he entered corporate America, an experience that helped shape “Year of the Dog” in 2018. Each release became a reflection of the life he was living rather than an isolated entry in his catalog.

A particularly formative period followed in 2019, when he lived with his great-grandfather, a World War II veteran, after his great-grandmother’s passing. Losing his great-grandfather later that year inspired “Classic OG,” released in 2021, strengthening the relationship between family history and his songwriting. With five albums now complete, JJ views “Vintage ‘Finesser” as a moment of completion and homecoming before entering married life.

His independent career has also built measurable radio momentum. “Perfect Match” recorded an opening week of 859 spins across 13 reporting stations, with an estimated audience approaching one million listeners, and maintained between 795 and 859 weekly spins for more than a month. “Live Life” grew from five reporting stations to ten within seven days, eventually logging as many as 776 spins in one week. His reach has included Mediabase Urban and Rhythmic airplay and rotation on Jacksonville’s WJBT, placing his music within established commercial radio programming.

JJ’s achievements also include four college radio No. 1 hits: “Perfect Match,” “Live Life,” “I’m Still There” featuring Gem Goldy, and “Ms. Finesser.” Early support from Nasty Nes and Fatman Scoop remains a meaningful part of that progress, connecting his independent development with two influential figures in hip hop radio.

“Vintage ‘Finesser” offers a welcome variation on the hip hop victory lap: the prize is not simply recognition, but a life worth sharing. That perspective gives its celebratory premise substance, positioning commitment as an achievement rather than a limit on ambition. JJ’s willingness to place family and fulfillment within his definition of success makes this a thoughtful milestone for an artist moving forward without losing sight of his roots.

Vintage ’Finesser is available on Apple Music and through its official streaming link.
