Pete Davidson is looking back on his relationship with Kim Kardashian with humor, but he says the nonstop attention surrounding her life eventually became more than he could comfortably handle.

In a new interview with Variety, Davidson reflected on the nine-month relationship and joked about what it was like entering the Kardashian orbit. “I’m one of the survivors — the few and the proud. We’re like the Marines,” he said, while making clear that his issue was never with Kim Kardashian herself. Complex also reported on Davidson’s comments.

Davidson said Kardashian and her family were upfront about the kind of public life they lived, and he respected that transparency. He described Kardashian as respectful of his boundaries and emphasized that he never felt pushed into situations he did not want to be part of.

What became difficult was the constant machinery around that level of fame. Davidson pointed to being followed, traveling with security and having to stay alert in public, explaining that the pressure felt especially intense while he was also dealing with mental health challenges and drug problems at the time.

The pair first connected publicly after Kardashian hosted Saturday Night Live in October 2021, where the two shared a kiss during an “Aladdin” sketch. Their relationship was confirmed the following month and lasted until August 2022, becoming one of the most heavily covered celebrity romances of that period.

Davidson also revisited the hostility he received from Kardashian’s former husband, Ye, during the relationship. Ye repeatedly targeted Davidson online, and Davidson said some of the comments and threats affected him deeply, though he also spoke with empathy about the pressures attached to Ye’s own public life.

Years later, Davidson says there is no lingering bad blood with Kardashian. He said the two are still cool and that he continues to have love for her, making his “survivor” line feel more like a joke about the intensity of the lifestyle than a shot at the person he dated.
