OTF Jam pushed back on the idea that he wants Lil Durk sentenced to life as the former OTF associate faced aggressive questioning from the rapper’s defense team in federal court.
Kacey “OTF Jam” Hester denied that he is hoping for a life sentence for Lil Durk during the rapper’s murder-for-hire trial, telling jurors that his testimony is about giving his account of what happened. During cross-examination Thursday, August 27, Durk attorney Brian Steel repeatedly challenged Hester’s credibility and the circumstances surrounding his cooperation with federal investigators, according to Complex.
Steel pressed Hester over his upbringing, his criminal history and the deal tied to his testimony, at one point accusing him of being untruthful. Hester responded that he was not “banking or hoping that Durk gets life,” adding that he was simply telling his side of the story as the defense sought to undermine one of the prosecution’s most important cooperating witnesses.
Hester has testified that he took part in the August 2022 Los Angeles shooting that prosecutors say was intended to target Quando Rondo but instead killed Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson. Durk has pleaded not guilty, and his attorneys have disputed the government’s claim that he orchestrated the alleged plot.
The cross-examination also focused on Hester’s account of how he became involved and what he understood about the alleged plan. Hester said he had recently completed a lengthy prison sentence before the Los Angeles trip and questioned why he had been brought into the situation, while Steel attacked both his decision-making and his description of events.
Another key issue surfaced when jurors heard a May 2023 recording in which Hester told federal officers that he and Durk had not discussed retaliation against Quando Rondo or Lul Timm. The defense highlighted that statement against Hester’s later testimony alleging that Durk had discussed putting money behind retaliation, creating a credibility dispute that could become central as the trial continues.
Hester has also testified that he still has love for Durk despite cooperating with prosecutors and acknowledged that Durk supported him financially during and after his incarceration. The murder-for-hire trial is expected to continue for several weeks, with Durk facing the possibility of a life sentence if convicted on all counts.
