Where Is Leroy? The Melbourne Rapper Choosing Honesty Over Hype

In a music industry full of image, branding, and carefully polished personas, Melbourne rapper Where is Leroy? is trying to do something much simpler. He’s just telling the truth.

Not the filtered version. Not the industry-friendly version. The real one.

And sometimes that truth is uncomfortable.

“I’m talking about the stuff I actually go through,” Leroy says. “My anxieties, my fears, my battles, my demons. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea. That’s fine. I’d rather be a few people’s shot of tequila than everyone’s cup of tea.”

That mindset sits at the center of everything he does. Where is Leroy? isn’t chasing trends or trying to fit neatly into whatever sound is popular that month. His music is personal. Raw. Sometimes messy. But always honest.

For listeners who recognize themselves in those lyrics, that honesty hits hard.

“If you relate to it, then keep listening. Let’s get through this together,” he says. “If you don’t, keep scrolling. I don’t give a fuck.”

A Voice From Melbourne

Coming out of Melbourne, Australia, Where is Leroy? represents a growing wave of artists who are building their own lanes instead of waiting for permission. His music pulls from real life experiences rather than industry formulas.

That approach has already started opening doors.

In 2023, Leroy hit a major milestone when he opened for Swifty McVay of D12 and rapper Mac Lethal, performing in front of audiences that already understood the power of raw, story-driven hip-hop. He also sold out Shotkickers while opening for Shinin Armour, proving that his local following is real and still growing.

Those moments matter. But for Leroy, they’re only part of the story.

The bigger mission is building something lasting.

The Hardest Part of the Game

For many independent artists, the biggest struggle is exposure. For Leroy, it’s something else entirely.

People.

“Working with the right people is the hardest thing in this game,” he explains. “Everyone is out for ego or money. Finding a team that actually wants to make good music with you is rare.”

That challenge is something many artists quietly deal with behind the scenes. The music world can be collaborative, but it can also be competitive and transactional. Trust becomes a valuable currency.

Leroy is learning that lesson as he builds his circle carefully, choosing authenticity over quick opportunities.

Because for him, the music comes first.

Building the “Where Is Leroy?” Legacy

Right now, the focus is growth.

The Where is Leroy? brand is expanding, and 2026 marks the start of a new chapter. The first drop of the year landed on February 1, kicking off a run of releases and projects that Leroy says are already in the pipeline.

“Many things are coming,” he says. “Just keep watching to make sure you see.”

That steady rollout is part of a bigger plan.

Looking a few years ahead, Leroy isn’t dreaming about viral moments or overnight fame. His goals are more grounded in the real hip-hop tradition: performing, traveling, and building a career on stage.

“I want to be touring my country headlining shows,” he says. “And touring other countries opening for artists I can learn from.”

More than anything, he wants longevity.

He wants to build a legacy.

Just Being Real

If there’s one message Leroy hopes people take away from his music, it’s simple.

Too much of the music industry feels fake.

Artists are pressured to create characters instead of being themselves. Social media rewards performance more than honesty. The result is a lot of noise that doesn’t say much.

Where is Leroy? is pushing back against that.

“Honestly, I’m just trying to be real,” he says.

That honesty might not appeal to everyone. And he’s perfectly fine with that.

Because the listeners who do connect with his story are the ones who matter.

As the year unfolds and new music continues to drop, the question behind the name becomes more interesting than ever.

People aren’t just asking where Leroy is.

They’re starting to pay attention to where he’s going.
