Young M.A puts family, grief and the beginnings of her ambition at the center of the official video for “Therapy.”

Young M.A is bringing renewed attention to one of the most personal moments on KWEEN with the official video for “Therapy.” The song opens the album as “Therapy (intro),” setting an autobiographical tone before the Brooklyn rapper moves into the wider tensions between ambition, success and the life that shaped her.

The record looks backward rather than presenting a polished victory lap. Recollections of childhood and feeling different give her confidence a history, showing that the determination in her writing developed through family experiences and difficult moments, not simply the arrival of a successful rap career.

Its emotional significance is something M.A has addressed directly. Speaking with The FADER in July, she said, “‘Therapy’ was probably one of my most emotional songs,” explaining that the passage about her brother was particularly affecting for her to perform.

Her mother’s support also belongs to that larger origin story: in the same interview, M.A recalled making recordings with a tape recorder and a makeshift microphone setup before her mother helped arrange studio sessions. Those details put the scale of her ambitions in perspective, tracing them back to a young artist finding ways to hear her own voice.

KWEEN arrived on May 29, 2026, with 15 tracks, marking M.A’s first full-length album since 2021’s Off the Yak. Giving its opening song a standalone visual now directs listeners back to the personal foundation of the project, rather than treating its most revealing writing as something to pass over on the way to a bigger single.

“Therapy” makes its case through specificity, finding weight in the people and memories behind the rapper’s public identity. Watch Young M.A’s “Therapy” official music video.
