Wale and J. Cole make their fated reunion on the D.C. rapper’s new upbeat single “Poke It Out.” Along with the new track, Wale also revealed the cover art and release date of his upcoming seventh studio album, Folarin 2.
Wale is in album mode, and what better way to usher in his latest era than by tagging his collaborator and longtime rap companion in Cole. With a contagiously energetic Cool & Dre beat lining the ribs of the track—including the same electric bass sample used for Q-Tip’s 1999 classic “Vivrant Thing”—Wale builds out the body with bars that entice the club to get up and start dancing.
Then enters the Dreamville head honcho, J. Cole, who tags in and boasts about being the franchise player while the competition can’t even “buy a layup.” The last time these two rappers connected was on Wale’s song “My Boy” off his 2018 EP Free Lunch.
Folarin 2 will be released on Oct. 22; check out the cover art below.
The upcoming album acts as the sequel to Wale’s 2012 mixtape Folarin that came with features from Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Tiara Thomas, Scarface, Nipsey Hussle, Trinidad James, and more. In preparation for this new full-length offering, Wale has released a series of tracks, including the Maxo Kream and Yella Beezy assisted “Down South” and “Angles” featuring Chris Brown.
