Virginia’s newest hip-hop legend is here to bring the heat this cold winter with his latest track, “We Outside”.
While declaring out loud a statement used predominantly by the urban culture to prove that things were getting back to normal and places re-opening, post-pandemic, rapper TLP , tells a story of how it was dealing with the coldest streets in VA. The entire track is fire from his flow to the beat that bangs tour speakers. Visuals for the track show his lifestyle as him and his boys walk the streets. The video, released on October 17, 2021 was directed by Double M Visions.
During a recent interview, TLP introduces himself a little more and let’s us in on the story behind his music.
Q: Hi TLP Star! Could you tell us what your name stands for?
A: “TLP stands for “Trust Loyalty Pain” these are 3 most important things to me and my family. Every move we make is based off these 3, every decision as well. Being the man with the plan I call myself the brightest which brought my name Star. Other factors include that Roanoke my hometown is called Star city due to its giant star and my country Liberia is also known as lone star. So Star was a way to pay respects to both of them.”
Q: What motivated you to write “We Outside”?
A: “This single was to show how after things looking so down and going bad we still came out with our head up. My left hand man had just died, so it was a hard time for the family, then cases came in the picture so the pressure really amplified but yet I’m home smiling, still focused on my grind safe to say I’m blessed.”
Q: What style of hip-hop are you bringing to the table?
A: “My style can be compared to a conversation almost when I rap if you pay attention to the words it’s as if I’m giving a speech I always have a message and flow is smooth but yet exciting always leaving the listener with more.”
Q: What’s been the biggest motivation to your music lately?
A: “Around march of 2021 I had got locked up in phile for some gun charges, the prosecutor was trying to press 5 felonies against me so sitting in my cell I thought I was sure to be doing at least 5 or more. This period of time showed me how I was unfocused and wasting my life. I ended up bailing out, the case is still continuing now but my God has blessed me and I have only 3 charges to fight. When I came home I promised myself I’m only focused on my progress.”
