We caught up with Taaylee G. to find out what motivates her, her aspirations in the industry, and more…
What’s your background? What got you into rap music?
In a weird way it kind of feels as though music chose me. I didn’t want to make music my entire life, I
honestly didn’t even know I could successfully put a song together until recently. But I’ve always loved music & I love a challenge. So when the opportunity to create music kind of fell into my lap, I took it & I’ve fallen in love with it.
How did you come to realize that music was the way forward for you?
Music first became a way for me to express my emotions. It was the learning process of structuring a
song and finding different cadences that I really find joy in. I love the arts, I love creating.
How do you put words on paper? What’s your creative process like?
For me, creating music starts with a vibe. How I’m feeling that day plays a big role in how I decide what beat to go on. My lyrics then go hand in hand with what I’m feeling & how I can relate it to my listeners. I really gotta put myself in the shoes of the consumer & think “what would I want to hear on a song that makes me feel- however”, & that’s how I go about writing my lyrics.
What strengths do you have that you believe make you a standout from other musicians?
I have an incredible ability to pick things up and learn faster than most. I’ve been surprising myself with how far I’ve developed in a short period of time. Also, my team @shoeboxmusicgroup is a great support system. We really got a lot of key players that work day in & day out to connect these dots. I believe it starts with that, there are a lot of artists that don’t have that. I have a great foundation & I’m very fortunate to have these guys in my corner.
How do you see your sound evolving in the next couple of years?
It’s crazy, I actually find that constantly my sound is improving & evolving. I’ll often listen to music I made a month ago & find that I’ve gotten so much better in that time to a point where I want to re-record it or not release it at all. I take pride in challenging myself to find different cadences & tones in my voice. I also want to take acting classes in order to further my ability to deliver. With that being said, I can’t pinpoint where my sound will be over the next 5 years, but I know I will be way better than I am today.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I’d bring it back to when music was real, & people weren’t scared to be vulnerable. Artists could speak their minds and not be worried about being canceled for speaking their truth.
What thing or person motivates you the most to wake up every morning and go hard at pursuing your dream of becoming a musician?
My beautiful twins. My baby boy & my baby girl is of course my biggest motivation to go hard. Aside from them, it would be my family and my team. My team @shoeboxmusicgroup goes so hard for me, so I’m gonna go hard for them.
What music advice would you give your younger self?
Read your contracts with a lawyer thoroughly and don’t limit yourself.
Where can people connect & stay up to date with you on social media?
On Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.
