Recorded aboard a cruise ship to the Bahamas and Mexico in their sailing “Cruise Cabin Studio,” “Onna Road” captures the myriad challenges artists face. This collaboration between the three artists underscores the importance of camaraderie and community in art and life “I’m far away from home / yeah I’m on the road,” sings Star2, resonating with every artist who has ever felt the weight of their journey. Star2 is no stranger to hardship. His story is one of resilience. He was born into a refugee camp in Myanmar and then sheer luck brought him to safety and freedom in the States. His new documentary, RETURN TO KAWTHOOLEI: A Refugee Rapper’s Journey to His Homeland in Burma, has received over 5 film festival awards +recognitions. Notable collaborations include acclaimed rappers Soulja Boy, $tupid Young, Mozzy, and Luh Kel just to name a few. Now, Star2′ current project highlights the bond and collective resilience of shared cultural roots.
Star2 began his life in a Thai refugee camp where he was forced to flee genocide from the Burmese army in Myanmar who burned his village to the ground. A lottery in the camp brought him to San Diego with his grandmother and her four children, where he began a new life. Now, under the mentorship of esteemed producer Chico Bennett, his collaborations with acclaimed rappers include Soulja Boy, $tupid Young, Mozzy, MBNel, Luh Kel, Lil Poppa, HoodTrophy Bino, YSN Flow, and MarMar Oso to name a few. While not on tour, he documents his journey in the popular ‘Adventures of Star2‘ series on YouTube. As an influential figure in Asian-American music, Star2 entwines heartfelt stories with captivating visuals, chronicling a tale of resilience and ascent.
