Bringing a pop-tinged flourish to his hazy sound, Ruben Dumars is set to unveil a new single in ‘All I Wanted’. Out May 2nd, the track brings together twinkling synths, grooving basslines and a gorgeously produced vocal performance for a track that feels endlessly energetic but holds a far deeper meaning.
Ruben explains, “This song was written with two things in mind: my desire to get high on drugs, and to tell a cryptic story of my long-since broken-up ex-girlfriend hooking up (allegedly) with a famous band frontman from Australia. And honestly, I didn’t do much, if any of the instrumentation initially, I added and removed quite a bit after Clint Holgate (Co-Producer) and I recorded this and Andrew Tolman (Imagine Dragons) played drums on it. This was recorded a long time ago, I think back in 2018 or 2019, and I decided to release it now, because I was thinking when I leave this world, I want there to be a broad range of styles and genres in my catalogue.”
In addition to the rhythmic sparkle in the foundations, Dumars brings soaring brass lines, starry melodies and moments of stripped-back, soothing bass. Whether appreciating it for energetic ferocity or lyrical storytelling, it’s one of Dumars’ strongest to date.
