RealRack DB, an emerging artist from North Carolina, has been making waves in the music industry with his raw and honest approach to rap. Born and raised in the small city of Reidsville, RealRack DB grew up surrounded by the sounds of nearby Greensboro, Eden, and Burlington. His musical journey began in middle school, when he and his brother, along with a childhood friend, would create raps for fun. However, it wasn’t until 2018, during his high school years, that RealRack DB publicly shared his music, uploading a video of himself rapping on Facebook. The positive feedback he received solidified his decision to pursue music seriously, and he hasn’t looked back since.
From Struggles to Soundtracks
RealRack DB’s music is deeply personal, shaped by the hardships and trauma he experienced growing up. These struggles, instead of holding him back, became the very force driving him forward. “Once I dealt with a lot of that trauma, it helped me to heal and move forward,” he says. This healing process is a recurring theme in his music, where listeners can hear the raw emotions and love he’s had for music from the start.
His sound is primarily rap, but RealRack DB doesn’t limit himself to a single genre. Incorporating melodic cadences and varied styles, he describes his music as a mix of different influences, refusing to be boxed into any one category. Although the only instrument he plays is the trumpet, a skill he picked up in school, it taught him the fundamentals of reading music—an experience that continues to inform his artistry.
Influences and Inspiration
RealRack DB’s biggest musical influences include legends like 50 Cent, Master P, Michael Jackson, and Tupac. What draws him to these artists is not just their music, but the way they’ve each impacted the music business and offered wisdom beyond their lyrics. Whether through music or speech, these icons have provided RealRack DB with valuable insights on how to succeed in the industry, and he seeks to follow in their footsteps while forging his own unique path.
Crafting Personal Projects
So far, RealRack DB has focused on building a solid foundation for his career, not only through releasing music but by establishing his business acumen. His two EPs, What’s Real? and No Feelings Right?, are key milestones in his musical journey.
What’s Real? was a particularly significant project because it was the first one he wrote and engineered himself. The EP is an introspective look into the personal and mental battles RealRack DB was facing at the time, offering listeners a glimpse into his struggles and growth. The success of that project paved the way for No Feelings Right?, where he took his craft to the next level by producing, recording, and engineering every track. This project marked a shift in his approach, as he decided to open up even more and release his emotions in a healthy, creative way. “Be uncomfortable and talk about what bothers you, but in a healthy way,” he advises.
What’s Next for RealRack DB?
Though he currently doesn’t have any new albums or EPs in the works, RealRack DB is consistently working on new singles and plans to release several by the end of the year. He’s taking his time to ensure the right opportunities for performances and further growth, but he remains focused on continuing his musical journey.
For RealRack DB, the most memorable part of his career so far is knowing that people enjoy his music as much as he does. Every moment spent alone in the booth is special to him, as it’s where he gets to do what he loves most. And with more music on the horizon, fans can expect RealRack DB to keep delivering the authentic, heartfelt rap that has become his signature.
