Gun violence is no longer just a headline—it’s a daily, lived reality for thousands of families across America. A powerful new film is bringing their voices to the forefront and urging a nation to act: Put the Guns Down.
This isn’t just a one-off documentary—it’s the first in a 12-part docuseries that takes viewers beyond the statistics and into the stories of those left behind. From grieving families to community members demanding change, Put the Guns Down exposes the human cost of gun violence and the systemic conditions that continue to fuel it.
In 2023 alone, more than 40,000 lives were lost to gun violence in the U.S.—an average of 110 deaths a day. Even more staggering: firearms are now the leading cause of death for children and teens, surpassing car accidents and cancer (CDC).
To take the message beyond the screen and into communities that need it most, the team of Put the Guns Down has launched a national GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $100,000.
The funds will power a nationwide outreach effort—covering everything from targeted social media and streaming ads to community screenings, radio and TV campaigns, and emotionally charged PSAs featuring real families affected by gun violence.
The film—executive produced by hip hop legend and actor Ice-T, directed by Terry C. Carney, Sr., and co-directed by Eric Herbert—is already streaming on Peacock, Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google TV. Its raw, personal storytelling has struck a chord across generations, sparking emotional conversations and calls for change.
“We’ve poured our souls into Put the Guns Down—but making the film was just the beginning,” said Carney. “Now we need help to take it further. These stories need to be heard in classrooms, churches, town halls, and homes across America. Because awareness without action won’t save lives.”
With gun-related deaths rising sharply among teens—especially in underserved, urban areas—the campaign aims to reach those most vulnerable: students and educators, parents and pastors, city leaders and lawmakers, and everyday people who live in the shadow of violence.
As the GoFundMe page boldly states:
“Because no one is untouched.”
The team is asking the public to do three things: Watch. Share. Give. Whether it’s $5 or simply reposting the campaign, every single action helps spread the message—and could help save a life.
