LOS ANGELES, CA (December 1, 2020) – Music business tech company Nvoko announced its launch of an exclusive platform for recording artists, songwriters, and producers to protect their collaborations and royalties through their seamless, online platform.  Targeted to serve emerging indie artists, Nvoko’s step-by-step process builds personalized contracts for every deal, and replaces common reliance on handshakes, hearsay, and imprecise written agreements.

In the age where musicians are increasingly independent, the risk of business deals having unintended ramifications is high and artists of all sizes end up losing royalties or facing copyright infringement lawsuits for their collaborations.  Nvoko is tackling these risks head on by providing an easy to use, secure space for managing contracts, legalities, and fees – and a place where artists can connect, collaborate, and safeguard their creative rights.

Offering both a free membership and a $17/month expanded service plan, Nvoko is 100% comprehensive, handling everything from the initial connection of artists and collaborators to pitching deals, creating enforceable contracts, facilitating payments, and guiding the user towards registering their creative works.

Generic contracts created by computers are nothing new, but Nvoko is the first company to focus specifically on the idiosyncrasies of real-life music deals.  The platform ensures the involvement of all necessary parties to an agreement, whether individuals, loan-out companies, or labels, and does not use fill-in-the-blank contracts.  Instead, Nvoko strives to understand the intentions of each deal by asking the right questions and creating personalized contracts to ensure that every artist secures the anticipated rights and profits from their creations.

“Nvoko empowers artists to protect themselves, and we’re committed to democratizing the music business in ways not seen before,” said Derek Ruffner, one of Nvoko’s co-founders. “Our vision is a big one – to serve and protect artists today so they have a greater opportunity to secure their creative rights,” he added.

Another Nvoko co-founder is L.A.-based hip hop artist Lucidious, who also teaches courses on business and marketing strategies for emerging artists, and who has personally experienced the challenges Nvoko is poised to address.

“Nine out of ten emerging artists are building their careers with little or no legal protection around their brand or catalogue, and this can quickly become fatal,” says Lucidious.  “Nvoko is built to help artists and collaborators understand what they are agreeing to and have lawful ownership over their creations and the revenue they generate,” he added.

Entertainment attorney Charlotte Towne is Nvoko’s third co-founder, and rounds out a team with industry, tech, and legal expertise.

Nvoko’s launch in December 2020 includes a free basic service as well as access to Nvoko Pro, with the first 3 months at no charge.
