On Sunday, May 26, boxing icon Mike Tyson experienced a medical emergency while traveling from Miami to Los Angeles. It was later revealed that he had a stomach ulcer flare-up, leading to nausea just thirty minutes before landing.
Earlier this week, Tyson took to X to reassure fans, saying, “Feeling 100% now, though I don’t need to be to beat Jake Paul,” implying confidence that his health scare wouldn’t impact his upcoming bout with Jake Paul. However, this initial optimism shifted when Paul and Most Valuable Promotions issued a statement confirming the fight’s postponement. Paul’s promotional company shared an official announcement on X, stating, “Both Mike and Jake agree that fair training time is essential for this significant match. The health and well-being of our athletes is paramount, and we support Mike in taking the necessary time to recover fully.” They also noted, “Mike is expected to resume his full training regimen in the coming weeks and is eager to return to the ring.” The statement concluded by promising, “The new fight date will be announced by next Friday, June 7.” Paul himself expressed his disappointment in a video on X, sharing his heartfelt wishes for Tyson’s swift recovery while lamenting the delay.
Tyson also released a statement, expressing gratitude to his global fanbase for their support and understanding. “Due to my ulcer flare-up, my doctor has advised me to reduce my training for a few weeks to rest and recover,” he said. He added, “My overall physical condition is the best it’s been since the 1990s, and I will soon resume full training. Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good. I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”
