Emerging from a life shaped by hardship and resilience, Marz Starlife unveils his powerful debut EP, Healing — a deeply introspective project that chronicles his journey from turmoil to self-discovery. Blending raw storytelling with soulful melodies, the Jamaican-born artist delivers a strikingly honest account of his past and the lessons learned along the way.
Raised in both Jamaica and the UK, Marz’s life took a tumultuous turn as he became entangled in gang and street life. The harsh reality of incarceration soon followed, forcing him to confront the choices that led him there. Yet, through self-awareness and the therapeutic outlet of music, Marz found a path forward — a path reflected in every track on Healing.
“This EP is a healing process,” Marz shares. “It details being lured into gang and street life at a young age, then having to come to terms with the consequences of being locked up in prison and away from family. In order to heal, we must understand what happened in our past, embrace the pain, and learn from our mistakes.”
The EP’s standout single, “Bad Memories,” offers a haunting reflection on regret and resilience. With emotive lyricism and a brooding instrumental backdrop, Marz revisits moments of trauma while acknowledging the growth that followed. Meanwhile, the title track, “Healing,” serves as a cathartic release, symbolizing the beginning of his emotional restoration.
Musically, Healing effortlessly bridges elements of hip-hop, dancehall, and soul. The production is intentionally stripped back at times, allowing Marz’s unfiltered emotions to take centre stage. Every verse feels like a confession — a vulnerable exploration of pain, accountability, and the strength it takes to move forward.
