In an industry where authenticity often gets overshadowed by trends, Kristina Menissov stands out as an artist driven by emotion, intention, and storytelling. With a foundation rooted in classical training and a voice that effortlessly balances strength with vulnerability, she brings a rare depth to modern music.
Her latest single, “Her Story,” reflects not only her artistic evolution but also her willingness to engage with meaningful themes through a deeply human lens. Rather than chasing genres, Kristina allows each narrative to shape its own sound, resulting in a body of work that feels both cinematic and emotionally resonant.
In this conversation, she opens up about rediscovering her passion for music, the inspirations behind “Her Story,” and how she continues to evolve while staying true to herself in a fast-paced industry.
Q1. How did you first discover your passion for music, and what inspired you to pursue it professionally?
Music has been part of my life since childhood through piano classes and classical vocal training. I was always drawn to how the voice can express both strength and vulnerability at the same time…
After taking a break from singing and becoming a mother, I realized music wasn’t just something I loved… it was something I needed. It became my way of telling stories and connecting with people on a deeper level.
Q2. How do you approach experimenting with different genres or sounds in your music?
I don’t approach it as switching genres, but more as a storytelling. Each story naturally asks for a different sound.
Because of my classical background, I’m very aware of technique, but I also allow space for modern production and emotion to guide the direction. That balance is what shapes my sound.
Q3. “Her Story” addresses systemic injustice. What inspired you to tackle this theme in your latest single?
The inspiration came from reflecting on real stories that stayed with me long after I first heard them during the events of 2020… those moments left a lasting impression on me.
And with everything happening in the world today, an obvious tension and uncertainty that people can feel globally… I felt a responsibility to revisit the subject with care, because these are not just topics, they are real lives.
I was very intentional about not making this song feel political. For me, Her Story is about humanity first. It’s about memory, identity, and making sure that names don’t disappear over time.
I think sometimes conversations get lost in opinions, but music has the ability to bring it back to something more human. That was my focus with this record.
Q4. How did collaborating with the young vocalists on “Her Story” shape the emotion and message of the song?
That was one of the most meaningful parts of the record. I worked with three incredibly talented young vocalists — Kyrie D. McAlpin, Ayla Rae, and Kendall Monroe — who sing a powerful bridge in the song.
Their voices brought a sense of innocence and truth that you can’t recreate. It added an intergenerational layer, almost like the future is watching and asking questions.
I think it made the message feel even more real and more urgent.
Q5. What do you hope listeners take away from “Her Story”, both musically and emotionally?
Emotionally, I want people to feel something real, even if it’s just a moment of reflection.
Musically, I hope they experience it almost like a scene, something cinematic.
But most importantly, I want listeners to remember that stories matter, and names matter.
Q6. Your music spans a variety of moods and themes. How do you decide what story or message to explore next?
It usually comes from what I’m going through or what I can’t stop thinking about.
Some songs are more personal, others are more observational, but they always start with a feeling that doesn’t leave me alone until I express it.
Q7. Who or what has been your biggest influence as an artist, and how has that shaped your approach to music?
My influences range from Maria Callas to Whitney Houston.
From classical music, I learned discipline and control. From artists like Whitney, I learned emotional delivery and connection and of course that perfect mixed belt.
That combination shaped how I approach music 🎶 technically aware, but emotionally driven.

Q8. How do you stay inspired and keep evolving creatively in such a fast-paced music industry?
I try not to chase trends. I focus on developing my own voice and perspective.
Staying inspired comes from real life, my experiences, conversations, and even challenges. I believe growth happens when you stay honest with yourself creatively.
Q9. Outside of music, what creative outlets or hobbies influence your artistry?
Fashion is a big one for me. Visuals play a huge role in how I express music.
I also find inspiration in film and storytelling and honestly in everyday life. Anything that creates a full world, or a beautiful moment can be used as inspiration.
Q10. How do you handle the balance between public attention and staying grounded as an artist?
I think it has become easier to navigate over time for artists in general. As you grow and your work reaches more people, you also learn how to be more intentional with your presence.
There’s a certain level of public attention that comes with this path, but I’ve let go of the FOMO pressure… I choose the spaces and moments that align with me. If my energy is low, I take time to recharge and have energy to create and socialize and that creates a much healthier balance.
For me, staying grounded comes from maintaining a simple, real life/motherhood/everyday routines outside of music. That contrast is important for me as it keeps me connected to who I am beyond the industry.
Q11. As you look to the future, what do you hope your music communicates about who you are as a person and an artist?
I want my music to feel honest and intentional.
I want people to see that I’m not afraid to explore different sides of myself. Whether it’s something light and fun or something deeper and more reflective.
At the core, I want my music to show that I care about what I create and the message behind it.
I also want my music to feel cinematic, like each song is a scene in a larger story about identity, power, and emotion ♥️
