Joy Taylor says a past relationship taught her a hard lesson after she financially supported a boyfriend who later cheated on her with a stripper.
Joy Taylor opened up about the relationship during the September 3 episode of Get TO The Point, hosted by Terrell Owens and Chris Spencer. Taylor said she was covering the household expenses while her then-boyfriend spent much of his time at home playing video games.
As Complex reported, Taylor said she eventually gave the man money to go out and clear his head while encouraging him to find a job. She later learned from a bartender at a strip club that he had been there and had cheated on her with one of the dancers.
Taylor recalled confronting him after getting the tip, only for him to deny the allegation and suggest they go to the club. She said that moment made her realize how far the situation had gone, telling the hosts, “I have reinforced this behavior. It’s absolutely crazy.”
Rather than continue the relationship, Taylor said she packed up the belongings she had paid for and left. She joked that she left him one of their two brooms, underscoring her point that she had been financially carrying the household before the breakup.
The story came during a wide-ranging conversation about relationships, marriage, career and expectations placed on women. Taylor also discussed why she values financial independence, a theme she has addressed recently on her own podcast while debating modern relationship dynamics and what partnership should look like.
Taylor did not identify the ex-boyfriend in the interview, and there is no indication the story was meant to revisit any specific publicly known relationship. Her larger point was about recognizing unhealthy patterns and refusing to keep rewarding behavior that was working against her.
