This week, the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge was blessed with an appearance from vocal powerhouse Jorja Smith. Smith gained popularity in the US after collaborating with Drake, but she’s been building her following for years across the pond.

She gracefully covered Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s Black Panther single “All The Stars,” but her performance of “The One” was the show stopper. The powerful single off Lost & Found is a crowd favorite, entrancing listeners in the middle of Smith’s emotions.

With a live band behind her, Jorja performed the single so well that you may never want to listen to the album version again. Lost & Found is Smith’s debut album that dropped back in June. The deeply passionate lyrics and delicate musings on the project earned Smith critical acclaim.

Mixed within the heartfelt tracklist is “The One.” The revealing song is an honest take on finding the perfect lover, but still not having the energy or willingness to let them in.

Smith sings about not wanting to depend on anyone, and not letting anyone in, no matter how much they may love her. The weight of the lyrics is much more palpable live, as the band enhances every emotion with a spot on performance.
