In a world where hip-hop trends change with the wind, Brunswick, Georgia native IAmLaShaun is carving out his own lane. With a sound that defies easy categorization and a determination to stay true to himself, LaShaun is quickly making a name for himself in the rap world.
Growing up watching his older cousin (who he considers more like a brother) make music, LaShaun was drawn to the art form from a young age. But it wasn’t until he decided to pick up the mic himself that he realized his true calling. “I don’t follow trends, I try to set my own,” he explains. “Even with my sound, I try my best not to sound like everybody else. It’s like a barbecue – everybody’s gotta bring their own dish.”
This commitment to individuality is evident in LaShaun’s lyrics, which often focus on themes of perseverance and self-empowerment. One line that has particularly resonated with fans is, “They come from a house of hate, you should show them love, they won’t feel it.” But LaShaun is quick to deflect when asked about his favorite lyric. “I’ve got plenty, so I don’t really have a favorite,” he says with a laugh. “But I honestly want to know what y’all’s favorite lyric I made is.”
As he looks to the future, LaShaun’s focus is on building a stronger connection with his growing fanbase. “I plan on achieving a bigger fanbase and engaging more with my fans,” he says. “I plan on dropping more music than I usually do and giving y’all more visuals. I want to give you all the best version of me.”
First up is his highly-anticipated EP, “Waste Of Voice”. The title speaks for itself, LaShaun explains. “A closed mouth don’t get fed. I’m tired of feeling like my voice isn’t being heard, so I’m making sure it is.”
