Tell us about you:
My name is Sydmusiq and I’m from a small town called Chester NY about an hour outside of New York City. Being from a small town has helped me appreciate the little things in life and it gave me a better perspective of the world as a whole.
With being only an hour from NYC And having family that still lives there, I am able to appreciate the fast paced lifestyle of a big city but also have the opportunity to get away when needed -I love music because it allows me to escape from reality when I want to and it also allows me to get things off my chest in a creative way. Sometimes getting on the mic with no plan at all and letting your emotions run rampant can be very therapeutic.
You don’t always want a response when getting things off your chest. Sometimes you just want to say it just to get it out, and thats what music is to me. A safe space where I don’t have to worry about being judged and I can speak freely. Often times, that is when the best music is made.
– What makes me different as a music artist is Im not trying to be anything im not. I only rap about things ive experienced. A lot of times people get caught up in trying to seem “cool” but I try to make music for the average hip hop fan. I feel like my music is for the person who has a normal 9-5 and just wants to escape a little during their commute, or the person who is home having a couple drinks on a Friday night.
In 5 years I see myself performing all over the country and helping people everywhere through my music. I want to be a household name that did it “the right way” – Sometimes in life we are presented with opportunities that we know don’t really line up with who we are and although it may give us a shortcut to our desired destination, I try to always stay away from that and stay true to who I am. I know If I stay true to myself, I will get to where I want to go.
I want to show people everywhere that hip-hop / rap music doesnt have to be angry or aggressive. Its just another creative way to express yourself and I think some people don’t see it that way. Rap kind of has a negative connotation to it and I want to try to change that. Hip hop did wonders for my life and I know I could help a young kid similar to myself.
I bring a sense of reality to the rap game. Someone who is lyrically gifted without having to incorporate violence or be someone they are not. I never tried to be a “tough guy” because thats just not who I am. So in my music, I keep that same identity and I feel like that will help more people identify with me. And dont get me wrong, every once in a while you have to throw on some hard gangster rap when your in your feelings, but for me Im more of a mellow guy who just wants to tell my story.
I want to be remembered as someone who did it his way regardless of the limitations others put on me. I want to show people everywhere that they can achieve anything with the right planning and discipline. Anything that is worth having is going to take work to get and I try to keep that mindset in everything I do –
