Getting to know music artist JoeGunna

Tell us about you:

I go by JoeGunna, from New Castle, PA ( 30 min north of Pittsburgh). I love music because I find complete satisfaction in making good songs. yeah the fortune n fame gon be cool when it come, but fr fr I just love creating things myself and others can enjoy and vibe too.

I’m a competitor, I played college baseball so a lot of who I am stems from that. I feel like rappers nowadays are too scared of competition, not me tho. I’ve also had a lot of different experiences in life that gave me a lot of perspectives from both sides of society. I been broke before, had money before, lived where it’s decent, lived in the hood, went to college, dipped into the streets for a little, played ball, etc. how I navigate those life experiences into art is what makes me different.

in 5 years I see myself doing positive things as a result of my rap career taking off. I want to build a state of the art community center where kids can have actual access to it. I see myself bringing business back to my hood, I see myself taking my whole family on vacation, giving back to churches all that. As a rapper I see myself solidifying my spot in the game, as one of the top lyricists out.

– What do you want to accomplish in life?

First I want to retire my mom and dad, they sacrificed for me, so I want to be able to return the favor. I want to set my grandkids up for life before they are even born. Generational wealth isn’t all too popular in the black community, so I wanna do my part to change the narrative. I also would like to write my own book one day, as that is something I enjoy doing. I think it would be dope to do some acting as well. At the end of the day, I want to make sure my family is set for life, and in 30 years, I want em to still be banging that JoeGunna!

To the music world I bring an old school flow with a new school attitude. I get comparisons to some of the people from the golden age of hip hop, but I’m still a young bull who’s not out of touch with the times we are living in. I feel like when people listen to me they hear someone they can truly relate too, and not just repeating some words because they sound cool on a dope beat. Not a lot of people shot someone, but a lot of people had to decide whether to buy some weed or put gas in their car, cuz that’s just some shit a lot of people going through, I’m also bringing authenticity to the game, in a time where I think we need it most honestly. I’ll be the first to tell you about the mistakes I made, and the things I have and haven’t done.

How do You want to be remembered?

Simple, as one the best to ever do what I do. Like I said before, I’m a competitor, and I don’t believe in doing anything and not trying to be the best. Even if I was in a room with Cole, Hov, and Wayne, I would still spit my shit like it’s the hardest any of them ever heard. I like the fact that my rap name and my real name are basically one and the same because I feel like my music personifies me. Sometimes I’m happy, sometimes I’m pissed, sometimes I wanna rob a nigga, sometimes I wanna tell niggas I’m the best, sometimes I wanna hug my momma, and I make music for all those times. Being able to tap in something beautiful, even from a tragic experience, is who I want to be remembered as.
